Recovering Vegetarian: 7vs7 #3: “Eat Your Meat” Click it!

There was quite a bit of interest as well as a few questions about the meat brackets we mentioned a couple of days ago, so here are the official 7vs7: “Eat Your Meat” rules!

The Players

The players — and let us know if you’re interested in doing this — will, to the best of their abilities, eat their way through the bracket, and come up with a set of individual winners. If they already have eaten any of the types of meat, they do not have to re-eat it. Along the way, they can post blog posts (or comments, or whatever) about where to find the best quality and best deals for some of the meats. It’s a tough challenge, but somebody has to try it, for the sake of science.

The Spectators

Those who choose to not participate (at least officially — feel free to play along if you so like on an “unofficial” basis) can fill out brackets based on what meat they think will win. Haven’t eaten all? Or are you a vegetarian that has at some point eaten meat? Use your best judgment, this is bracketology after all. (I mean, had any of you watched Akron play before NCAA this year?) The one who gets most hits correctly might even win something.

The Brackets

And don’t worry — we will provide brackets that can be filled out online, instead of silly PDFs. It’s that Spokane Food Blog service mentality!

When will this go down?

If you’re a spectator the brackets will be up on Wednesday, April 8th. If you’re a player, well, you can start playing now, but the brackets will be up on the 8th for you too. Then the competition will go for two weeks, until April 22nd. The winner of the competition will be the one who has tasted the most meat from the bracket. (Honors system applies!)

And vegan and vegetarian brackets? We will do those when/if EatSpokane’s Veg Week happens this summer.

Let the great experiment begin!

I’ve eaten at least eight of the meats on the bracket!! I will win this even if I have to eat at Downriver Grill (Spokane’s best fine dining restaurant btw) every day!!

As my own attorney I advised myself to not participate, so of course I am in

What do I have to do, I am too busy being a librarian to read for myself…

Mark, I thought you had a secretary to read for you.

Gottschalk, you came from Boston and were raised by people who own an Organic Farm (I really just wanted to point out that your farm has the BEST cider). All you have to do to play is eat 32 types of meat or, be the player to taste the majority of those 32 meats and you win.

I’m so in! A question though. I don’t like seafood at all. Can I use a standin for that?

If the variety of meats were actually different types of dessert, I would be all over this.

I just got some veal sweatbreads in. I will be making a terrine from them in the next couple of days. It still counts as veal if it is the thymus gland right? Which leads me to think about a lot less exciting game: Offal Bingo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offal

Fresh Jacque:
No can do, it is a contest based on the brackets. You don’t have to re-eat things you have already tried. I keep having nightmares about eating seafood. I haven’t had 7/8 items in that category. You don’t have to eat the entire clam you just have to taste it to count it.

Becky:
Looks like you will play the spectator bracket?

David Blaine:
I just thought veal was veal, I have no clue what you are taking about. So, if it came from an animal and it is called veal, then I say it is veal and it should count. Anyone wanting to object please do so.

Veal is veal. (I’m not making an Ann Veal pun here, as there will be an “Arrested Development” one later!)

Since I have already eaten all of the foods listed I will attempt to revisit them. Surprisingly it is the poultry bracket that looks to be the most difficult. I may have to order in some ostrich so we can all knock it off together.

Remi Comment 14 of 24

Yeah, I’m 100% on every bracket other than the poultry one. I don’t get it. You’d think that’d be the easiest one.

Oh man, I’m SO into that cider. And the batch he brought was something they only considered “good”? My god. It was heavenly, easily the best cider I’ve ever tasted.

And good for you!

Mark’s Cider is Gottschalk’s Organic Farm in OR and it is wonderful. Mark, are those your parents? http://smallfarms.wsu.edu/crops/OrganicOrchards7.htm

Hum, David already ate everything on the list. I guess I should not be surprised. The second bird listed on each of the brackets seems difficult. Where can you get ostrich? That would be great. Maybe your challenge is to get through all 32 items in two weeks, I am basically starting on the level?

Interested to see where Steve’s best meat picks come from.
