Libation Station: Deschutes tasting at Bottles, the aftermath Click it!
By Remi | Dec 11, 2009 | 6 ResponsesIf you missed out on the Deschutes tasting at Bottles last night, then, well, you certainly missed out.
(Never mind that we gave you the wrong time… It was 5-7pm, not 6-8pm. We maintain we were given the wrong time. Or that we were given the time after a few too many sips at their wine tasting. Either way.)
Anyway! The beers sampled should be familiar to most, but for a quick walkthrough…
- Jubelale! A good, but not great entry into the Jubelale line of seasonals. They also handed out some really cool (and well produced) Jubelale posters.
- Mirror Mirror! The barleywine based on Mirror Pond. Always a fun one.
- Black Butte XXI! My personal favorite is the Black Butte Porter on Crack. (Its official name.)
- The Abyss! The legendary Deschutes reserve.
Bottles probably still have some bottles left, so run pick some up. And remember, each bottle has a “Best After” print on them. In other words, store them like you’d store a wine.

Dec 14 2009 7:15 pmI would like to throw a “great” vote in for the 09 Jubelale. But the Full Sail “Wreck the Halls” gets my best of season award for bottled winter ales.

Dec 15 2009 9:49 amI still need to give Wreck the Halls a shot this year.
For me Nøgne Ø Winter Ale is still the frontrunner. They just got a bunch of them back at Huckleberry’s too.

Dec 16 2009 11:30 amI’ll check it out. If nothing else, it’s got cool O’s in the name.
Perhaps the Weds 23rd Bike Nerd Hang should go down at HB’s for a winter ale tasting with the Libation Station crew? We can intermingle bike nerd talk with beer tasting nerd talk. Hmm? Hmm?

Dec 16 2009 1:19 pmIndeed. I added my thoughts about it here: http://www.spokanefoodblog.com/2009/12/04/nøgne-ø-winter-ale/
The 23rd sounds awesome, but ye olde SFB is out Trippin’. I don’t think we’d be opposed giving that a shot some other time though. I’m sure the DTE boys would be up for it too, to add some environmentalism into the mix.

Dec 16 2009 2:14 pmHow about a Winter Ales tasting at HB on January 6 – complete with score cards and blind tasting, not unlike this birthday party we set up. http://www.spokanefoodblog.com/2009/07/07/the-great-beer-challenge/

Dec 17 2009 5:49 pmThe bike nerd hang will happen at HB on Wed 23rd. Just FYI. DTE fellars? As for the 6th, my guess is that many bike nerds will be onto the January-light-beer-but-mostly-water-thank-you in preparation for the new season. But maybe that’s just me? We can plan on being there.
